Message From the East
                Hello, Brethren
I usually try to compose this a month in advance, and then usually in the middle of the month, as it is now.  I do this because usually there is little of note that goes on in the Lodge.  This time I really blew it! Late last month, the Society of Past Masters’ Banquet was held.  Usually we come away with the Most Members attending.  This was not the case this year. The Master of each Lodge is asked to submit a Past Master who he thinks is the most outstanding. From these submissions the SOPM officers then select the best in the District. When the announcement was made, I was extremely surprised and very happy.  Our own W.B. Don Perry was named the Distinguished Past Master of the District. In my opinion, it was overdue. He is a person that gives of his time in all areas and has supported me since he was a member of the Investigating Team that recommended me as “full and favorable”.  Thanks WB Don for all your help and support over the years.
Moving on to more recent news, on April 17th, history was made in the State of Ohio.  MWB Terry Posey mandated that 3 or more Lodges, up to an entire District, could come together for the purpose of holding a One Day Class.  Right after Convocation, I sat down with the Masters of McMakin and Colerain Lodges to formulate a plan.  April 17th was supposed to be the District Deputies Class, but since there was little other interest, they gave the date to us. Shortly thereafter Columbia and Western Hills-Cheviot came on board.  I will tell you that I am not exactly a fan of the One Day Class and would say that more than likely very few of the people involved are either, but this year we have raised 5 so far and there should be 1 more, if he can get back from Officers’ Candidate School in time for one of the next two scheduled Classes.
The day started out well.  Our Lodge conferred a very good EA degree.  Two Brethren from Columbia Lodge acted as our Stewards.  At the last minute, RWB Herb Kern served as Senior Deacon and W.B. Don Perry ran the projector and was our prompter. A Brother from McMakin was our Tyler. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our JW Dave Ritzie. He gave an outstanding Lecture, Having only given it for the first time a couple of nights before. Brother Rick Long gave a very good Charge.           Colerain and Western Hills-Cheviot did a good Fellowcraft Degree and McMakin did the Master Mason Degree.  I was their SW in both sections.
We must have done something right, because the candidates asked for exam books, and at least one of them is willing to come back and take the Degrees in our Lodge.
Before I close, I need to give a big THANK YOU to all of the Regular Officers for their help and support, especially to RWB Barrie Owen and W.B. Dick Wendt for going the extra mile and acting as Candidate Guides on top of their usual Lodge Duties.  I also thank Dennis Manning for his help.                That’s it for now.  Hope to have more good news from YOUR Lodge in the future.
Fraternally yours,
Dan
